Lady Feodora was the daughter of Prince Victor Hohenlohe-Langenburg and sister of Lady Helen Gleichen. She studied at the Slade School of Art, London under Legros and exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1892. She was a prolific sculptress and was one of the foremost female sculptors of her day. The Gleichen Award of the Royal Academy is named after her. This ornament is illustrated in the original ""Garden Ornament"" by Gertrude Jekyll, published in 1918.
